Article: Catfish Farmers Beware Of Uncontrolled Variable Costs!!
As more and more catfish farms spring up, every catfish farm owner will have to contend with increased availability of the same products(fingerlings and table-size catfish) in the same market.

To avoid losing out, the wise catfish farmer needs to start exploring Variable Cost Reduction initiatives that will enable production of larger numbers of catfish(fingerlings and/or table fish) at lesser cost, in lesser time, and using lesser resources.

Are you planning to(or already) own a catfish farm? If yes, I urge you to go beyond enjoying the psychological satisfaction that people think you are making money from it. Instead put your hard earned startup capital to good and lasting use, by doing the things I have described in this report to ensure you do make GOOD money in form of tangible PROFITS. <Click here to get a FREE copy of the FULL article>

Rather than wait till all is in place, we decided to launch the mini site and share/develop the ideas we have. One key objective of the SDAc's Integrated Fish Farm (IFF) - and by extension this mini site - will be to continuously investigate, document and publish best practice ways of rearing food and ornamental fish cost-effectively for higher yields using locally sourced materials and indigenous knowledge/skills – in conjunction with consistent implementation of Best Practice Process Management Techniques.

Think You Know All There Is To Know About Aquariums? Click HERE.

The IFF’s ideas/mini-scale operation level discoveries will be offered to interested startups and existing fish farm business owners initially via this site.

However, as our followership/credibility grows, and/or by the time our farm center operations fully take off, we will organise workshops and seminars designed to encourage more people to go into low startup capital ventures like fish farming by following tested and proven methods(process records documentation/ spreadsheet data analysis for decision making, workplace organization etc) which increase their chances of success at first attempt.

Natural Self-Cleaning Aquarium Systems

The SDAc's Natural PLANTED Aquarium Systems which - due to their unique biological Self-Cleaning ability - maintain amazing water clarity without ANY electric water pumps/filtration systems, also feature here, and we explain how you can easily build and maintain your own balanced systems with surprisingly VERY little effort and money.

My 12 gallon size aquarium system, built in July 2002 is now over three and a half years old and still a delight to behold. See an actual picture of it (bottom left of this page) with kids in foreground - notice that the fluorescent light is off, yet the water clarity is such that the fish in it are clearly captured from a distance by the camera lenses.

That picture of the three and a half year old tank is on this site thanks to Stephen Akinola who loaned me his digital camera in November 2005. The pictures at the top/bottom/right of this page, of the same tank(and a 6 gallon one I had just built back then), were taken 2 years ago, by a professional photographer who I paid to shoot the insides, and out.

I had planned to do the same thing to the three and a half year tank for the launch of this site, but my amateur photography skills were not up to taking underwater shots that would do justice to the aquarium! So I settled for the one at the bottom left. Watch out however for the photos that will be done by a pro, in the near future.

You can of course book an appointment ANYTIME to visit and see the real-life aquarium. Click here now to do so.

Despite deliberate effort NOT to beautify it with denser growth, mixture and arrangement of aquatic plants(I use it to test my ideas), it still catches the eyes of anyone that sees it.

Apart from about 5 minutes every 2 to 3 days spent feeding the fish(at zero cost, due to use of live feed that I rear myself) the aquarium is hardly tended to more than once in two months! You can learn more about why this is possible and how you can do the same for yourself on this site.

What Is The Difference Between A Natural Aquarium And An Artificial One?

To learn how our Natural Aquariums differ from Artificial ones, read our January 2006 feature.

However, to learn even more "Google" this string : "What is the difference between a Natural, Planted Aquarium and an Artificial Aquarium". Vary the key words in the string with repeat searches, and you should eventually find enough websites with details that give you a better understanding.

That's what I did many, many times to learn how to control the changes that i found taking place in my natural aquariums from 2002. Over time I gradually deviated from some of the rules given on the sites I found, to arrive at what I now describe on these pages. (e.g. many insisted satisfactory clarity would be better maintained for the long term by using powered filters to "support" the natural system).

I could make it easier by giving you ALL the links I have, BUT I am a Self-Development/Performance Enhancement Specialist who seeks to empower his target audience to learn how to learn, so they can take better control of the challenges they face in pursuing their goals.

It is my desire to help you learn to be proficient at purpose-driven self-education, so that over time, you will need me less and less, and eventually be able to help others become as productive as you would have become.

Sorry about the lecture, but that's why the supply of direct links may not be as forthcoming on this site. Instead, like I did with the Google string above, I use a variant of the Socratic technique, to get you to think of different ways to find what you want, till you arrive at the most suitable. :-)

My sons, Stephen-Chika and Emeka, stand next to our over three and a half year old natural aquarium in November 2005 - note how clearly the fish can be seen, even though the flourescent light is off. Also observe the deliberately sparse planting I referred to in my home page introduction(part of my ongoing trials to see just how far I can push it!)
This picture shows the interior of our three and a half year old natural aquarium, when it was about one year old i.e in mid 2003. Today, the same aquarium, with over 80% same occupants maintains the same clarity. The bottom pix shows the gravel bed of the same tank - plays a crucial role in the natural biological filtration that keeps the system balanced.
